FIU football honors FIU family member, cancer survivor at WKU game

FIU football honored cancer survivor and FIU family member Brunhilde “Pupi” Tomassini at the Oct. 9 game against Western Kentuky University (WKU).

During halftime, President Mark B. Rosenberg presented Tomassini, who works in the International Forensic Research Institute, a pink football signed by the football team and head coach Mario Cristobal.

Fans received educational material prior to the game from La Liga Contra el Cáncer‘s (The League Against Cancer) “Vehicle of Hope,” as part of the university’s new Play Pink initiative. FIU External Relations and FIU Athletics has teamed up with La Liga to raise cancer awareness among college sports fans.

Teams will dedicate several home games in the upcoming months to the cause by recognizing and honoring a cancer survivor who is a member of the FIU family; selling T-shirts and bracelets; and presenting fans with educational material. The Dazzlers will be collecting donations prior to the games.
