Dear FIU Family,
We have won our first bowl game ever!
I take great pleasure in informing you that your FIU Panthers have won the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in Detroit! Our football team delivered a 34-32 WIN against the University of Toledo.
Our journey to Detroit is symbolic of a university whose tradition has always been to turn the impossible into the inevitable. Our team’s hard work and your steadfast support have made this victory possible and I couldn’t be more proud of FIU today!
We owe a particular debt of gratitude to students, alumni, members of our volunteer boards and friends who came to Detroit to cheer our team on. You are fantastic fans and I thank you for that. In fact, the support of the entire FIU community has been instrumental in realizing this amazing season that brought us our first Sun Belt Conference Championship. Going forward, we’ll need you just as much.
Thanks again for your support. I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to working and cheering with you in 2011.
FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg
Amazing Win!
It was a heartattack ending to a game…tight game from the beginning…. love games like that… GO FIU!
Panther checking in from Detroit! Congrats to the program, the fans… EVERYONE WHO LOVES FIU!!! The cold was bone splitting, but that didn't keep us from witnessing the best win in FIU history!
GO PANTHERS!!!
It always seems as though instead of FIU is always trying to do something just to say that they are the "BEST" . You were quick to build a medical school and call it "diverse", and then you try to get a basketball coach that was an incredible player but cant coach… Everything is not about that. First of all, dont say that you are trying to be diverse when there are only 2 black people in the starting class. You need to re-evaluate yourselves. Medicine is changing, and it is people like "YOU" the reason why the matriculation numbers for minorities are so small. Well, keep up the good work and make uncle sam proud. 🙂
Unbelievable!!!! TY Hilton for President!!!! 4th and 17 and the hook and ladder worked!!!! Congratulations to all FIU supporters, current students, and Alumni as my self.
OMG!!!!! Loved every second of the game!
Gooooooo Panthers!!!!!! Feel the pride?
From a PROUD Alumni and Staff
WOW…what a game! I was on the edge of my couch the whole time! I have been an FIU fan for a long time! This is the greatest moment in FIU history so far…looking forward to many more…GO GOLDEN PANTHERS!!!
Good game PANTERS! We deserved it. When is the celebration party?
That was the best come back win i saw this year. I didnt attend FIU but i am delighted to see FIU football come this far. I live in N, Miami Beach and as a neighbor, I would like to congratulate the Panthers for making MIAMI look good.Job well done.
Awesome, come on Panthers!!
I love this game!!!!! Our first ever bowl and champion!!
I am so proud to be an FIU ALUMNI! They played with their hearts and they dominated the 2nd half and didnt let the few mistakes get to them! As for our coach, He is a wonderful one when do you ever see a coach take off their headset in a tight game to attend to an injured player!!! GOLDEN PANTHERS LETS HEAR THAT ROOOOAAARRRR!!! IT WAS OUR TIME TO SHINE! A TRUE CINDERELLA STORY!
Seeing the birth of my daughter and the Golden Panthers winning in Detroit within 13 days of each other truly defines what having a Happy Holiday Season is all about. "The Guy with Funky Hat"
CONGRATULATIONS, my stellar Golden Panthers!!!!!!!! I am a SUPER PROUD GOLDEN PANTHER ALUMNA (two time graduate, M.B.A. and B.S.). FIU has been my life. Moreover, FIU is in my future, and I cannot say how proud I am to be a Panther for life. FIU is THE best school – and so young to be SO ACCOMPLISHED!!! Thank you for making the value of our degrees go up, by bestowing these wonderful accomplishments upon our school. Congrats to Bert on the birth of your little Pink Panther. You know, they sell baby Panther clothes at the Panther store – I know because I LOVE FIU gear and have everything from FIU champs gear to a #4 jersey (and old school football jersey from back in the day), to much other gear (including other old school retro)!!! =) My car? Panther tag, baby!!! I even have the original FIU tag I drove around with a decade back (white, blue letters, and red on the bottom with white lettering – I love my new, gold FIU tag). When, and if I ever have a child of my own, my baby will wear: Panther gear too, like mommy! Yes, this Golden Panther alumna bleeds blue and gold.
Congratulations, President Rosenberg, Coach Cristobal, T. Y. Hilton, Perry, Griffin, Elliingson, and each and every one of our spectacular FIU Golden Panther football team. I watched every second of the heart attack special – you guys looked spectacular on television – awesome, especially considering Sunday night football was cancelled because of the weather, which means all eyes were on us. Each and every one of you, who played your best, most flawless A game, deserves huge congratulations (build upon that for our next championship – playing like you did last night, there is no better time than this upcoming year to go back to back – and we CAN do this – for now, let us bask in our well-deserved glory). I hope our three injured players heal fast – especially knowing that we brought home the championship – and it was all worth it! It is comforting and impressive to know we have an AMAZING AND CARING COACH IN CRISTOBAL. When I saw him take off his headset towards the end of the tight game and tend to his player I was that much more proud. GO PANTHERS!!! What heart!!! What a T-E-A-M!!!
Now, when are we having a celebration, homecoming, pep rally, or function for them? I cannot wait to buy the latest Panther gear – FIU bowl champs! YESSSSS! GO FIU!!! FIU FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS, FILLED WITH PANTHER PRIDE!!!

Being the "BEST" at something is a good thing! Thank you to the FIU football team for showing the whole country what FIU is all about.
