Tents go up, add a dash of color to MMC for Haiti

The Base Paint Tents were recently exhibited downtown during Art Basel Miami Beach. Shown here is Damian Sarno's creation, which, seen from above, depicts a happy child's face. For more information, check out basepaint.org.

Ten base paint tents went up on the lawn outside the Frost Art Museum at Modesto A. Maidique in anticipation of the first anniversary of the earthquake that devastated Haiti last January.

The utilitarian installation, curated by Miami-based artist/independent curator Antuan, serves as a sign of goodwill for the children of Port-au-Prince. The tents were created by 14 artists from around the world and capture the essence of Haitian life, art and culture.

After the tents are displayed at FIU, they will serve as classrooms, a library and workshops on the property of L’Athletique d’Haiti in Cite Soleil in Haiti beginning late next month.

FIU is supporting this art project in collaboration with Fundacion Manos del Sur and the Step by Step Foundation.
