Annual Dance Marathon breaks record benefiting Miami Children’s Hospital

FIU’s annual Dance Marathon, benefiting Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation through the Children’s Miracle Network, raised a record $187,108 Jan. 29-30 in a dance extravaganza that attracted more than 160 dancers.

Students, faculty/staff, alumni, their friends and families stayed on their feet, dancing and playing games for 25 hours to raise funds for children whose families can’t pay their medical treatment.

This year’s theme was Toy Story.

Dance marathon is the university’s largest student-run philanthropic effort. Students who participate work year-round to put on the initiative. Not only do they plan meticulously for the actual event, they plan and execute fundraisers throughout the year, with those proceeds going toward the Dance Marathon total.

Since its inception in 1997, Dance Marathon has raised more than $850,000.
