Professional development courses now available online

If you are looking for opportunities to attend professional development courses that offer greater flexibility with a busy schedule, the Office of Employee Assistance, in collaboration with FIU Online, has developed three courses that can be accessed anywhere there is an internet connection.

These courses are self-paced and designed to provide practical information and strategies to prepare and respond to violent events that, hopefully, will never occur. The training sessions were created to help faculty and staff be more prepared in the unlikely event of violence.

“These courses are not intended to scare anyone,” says Kate Kominars, director of the Office of Employee Assistance.

Completion of each of the following courses will count for one hour toward the annual 20-hour requirement for professional development:

1) Preventing Workplace Violence

How to detect warning signs and strategies for prevention

2) Shots Fired: When Lightning Strikes

Practical information about coping with an unlikely workplace event

3) The Impact of Domestic Violence in the Workplace

How to recognize signs of domestic violence and  respond effectively

3)    Click on “Talent Management and Development”

4)    Click on the “Professional Development Opportunities” link
