The 7th annual FIU Relay for Life March 4-5 at Modesto A. Maidique Campus brought out the best in the blue-and-gold family, as a group of its finest members led by FIU First Lady Rosalie Rosenberg, cancer survivors and caretakers walked to celebrate those who are or have fought the disease.
“We are really excited that the 2011 FIU Relay for Life raised $90,000,” said Beverly Dalrymple, director of the Center for Leadership & Service, “which is more than our goal of $85,000.”
A record 75 teams participated in this year’s event held in front of the Ryder Business Building, including groups of students and student-athletes, faculty/staff, administrators, alumni and community members.
Everyone “had a lot of fun” taking part of the event, which had for a theme “Playing for Life.”
“All the teams had a different take on a childhood game at their tents,” Dalrymple said. “We were very happy with the turnout and with the level of participation throughout the night.”
As usual, the all-night relay began with the traditional Survivors’ Lap, followed by the Luminaria ceremony at 10 p.m.
I had a ball doing this while I was at FIU, glad to see that it is still happening!
