Inaugural conference to celebrate global learning success


Event to provide strategies for engaging students in global learning in the classroom and community and to recognize leaders of FIU’s global learning initiative.


To celebrate the successful implementation of FIU’s Global Learning for Global Citizenship initiative, the Office of Global Learning Initiatives will be hosting the inaugural Global Learning Conference Fri., April 8, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in the Green Library Faculty Room, GL 220. The conference is part of FIU’s Diversity Week, April 4-8, 2011.

One of the central purposes of the annual conference is to share global-learning best practices with FIU and the greater university community. Additionally, the event will recognize faculty, staff, student and community members who have led the way in the development, design and implementation of the global learning initiative.

The conference will include a lunch discussion (1 to 2 p.m.) that will explore strategies for including diverse faculty and student perspectives in global learning. A session titled “GL Blasts: Powerful Ideas to Ignite Global Learning” (2:15 to 4:15 p.m.) will feature 15-minute hands-on demonstrations of global-learning ideas worth spreading, a la “TED Talks.”

The closing reception (4:30 to 5:30 p.m.) will honor FIU’s global-learning leaders and celebrate Global Learning for Global Citizenship.
