Leading researcher to lead seminar on customized medicine


Stanford School of Medicine Professor Carlos D. Bustamante, is scheduled to lead a seminar titled “Population Genetics in the Personal Genome Era,” at 3:15 p.m on Tuesday, March 22, 2011.

The seminar will take place in the AHC2, room 160 on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus. Complimentary refreshments will be served at 3 p.m.

A 2010 MacArthur Fellow, Bustamante is a leading scientist in the area of customized medicine, said Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Professor Rene Herrera, who organized the seminar.

“Dr. Bustamante is a local who has made it to the top of his profession at a very young age,” said Herrera. “All of our students who are interested in genetics will benefit greatly from the opportunity to interact with him.”

The seminar, sponsored by the University Graduate School and the College of Arts and Sciences, is part of the Graduate Student Invited Speaker Series 2011.
