Diversity Week events worked to eliminate stereotypes, educate

Diversity is a central component of who we are at FIU.

During Diversity Week 2011, “FIU: Where Worlds Unite,” the university community celebrated its differences and learned about racial justice, immigration, gender issues, disabilities, religion and current events.

The week of special events April 4-8 concluded with TAG: The Art of Giving. The TAG project is a fund raising campaign organized by the FIU Art + Art History Department to assist children in some of the world’s most neediest countries. As part of Diversity Week, TAG organized donations of shoes to be hand painted by art students, Children’s Creative Learning Center students, as well as walk-in volunteers.

Check out a video by FIU employee Kevin Huggins, a statistical research coordinator in the Office of Planning & Institutional Research, on the event.
