Baseball on a streak, first in Sun Belt Conference

Rivalry games are never over until the last out is made. The Panthers and the Owls proved just that Thursday night. FIU (36-16-1, 19-18-1) held on after an FAU (31-21, 16-12) four-run rally in the ninth to win 9-7 and take sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference after South Alabama defeated Troy on a ninth-inning walk-off home run.

FIU extended its NCAA-leading, unbeaten streak to 17 games – a streak spanning an incredible 35 days. The Panthers haven’t lost a game since April 15 of this year. The win gives the team 36 for the season and matches their win total from a season ago.

The men return to the diamond tonight, May 20, for the second game of the series. FIU will send junior lefty R.J. Fondon (5-4, 2.95) to the mound to square off against FAU righty Paul Davis (9-1, 2.77).
