U.S. ambassador to Spain to deliver lecture at FIU Sept. 19


Alan D. Solomont, the ambassador of the United States to Spain and Andorra, will deliver a lecture Monday, Sept. 19, at FIU’s Frost Art Museum.

Titled “U.S.-Spain Relations Today,” the lecture is scheduled for 10 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

Solomont has spent much of his career in the fields of health care and elder care. He is the chairman of Solomont Bailis Ventures, dedicated to launching new and innovative health and eldercare ventures. He is a co-founder of HouseWorks, a home care provider that helps senior citizens remain independent and supports families caring for aging relatives. Solomont is the founder and managing director of Angel Healthcare Investors, a group of executives investing in early-stage health care and life sciences companies.

Solomont was selected by President Barack Obama to serve as the ambassador to Spain and was confirmed by the Senate in 2009. Prior to that, then-President Bill Clinton appointed Solomont to the board of directors of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which oversees AmeriCorps, the National Senior Service Corps and Learn & Serve America.

The Sept. 19 lecture is part of the Ruth K. and Shepard Broad Distinguished lecture series, the flagship speaker series for the School of International and Public Affairs in the College of Arts & Sciences.
