Change to on-campus wireless Internet adds more security

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Division of IT is changing the way users log onto the wireless Internet access available at FIU’s campuses. All students, faculty and staff will now log onto the FIUSECURE network, an encrypted and more secure channel for everyone to access the Internet from their wireless device.

Beyond the security improvements on the university’s Internet access, bandwidth on the FIUSECURE network is not limited and users will have the ability to browse Internet sites with full access and no restrictions.

Students, faculty and staff logging onto the FIUSECURE network must select FIUSECURE from the list of wireless networks available.

After opening a new Internet browser, users will be redirected to a FIU Network Login web page where they log in using their MyAccounts username and password.

Additionally, the one-click guest access has been removed and visitors will now log onto the new FIUVISITOR network. The FIUVISITOR network is available to anyone on campus, regardless whether or not they are a member of the university.
