Ambassador to discuss Israel and the United Nations Nov. 15


Ambassador Haim Waxman, deputy permanent representative of the Mission of Israel to the United Nations, will deliver a lecture Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Wolfe Theater on FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus.

Titled “Israel and the United Nations,” the lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Prior to his current post, Waxman served as the director of the Department for Non-Proliferation in the Strategic Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As head of the Department for Defense Export Controls in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2005 and 2007, Waxman was closely involved in the reform of the national system of export controls and legislation. During this period, he was a member of the United Nations Group of Experts on Illicit Brokering in Small Arms and Light Weapons. He also represented Israel as counselor at the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations office in Geneva from 1999 to 2004.

The Nov. 15 lecture is part of the Ruth K. and Shepard Broad Distinguished Lecture Series, the flagship speaker series for the School of International and Public Affairs in the College of Arts & Sciences.
