College of Architecture + the Arts Professor Jaime Canaves asked his students take on a challenging task on Nov. 8 – to walk on water.
Alex Quinonez and his project partner, Esther Monterrey, not only walked on water, but crossed the lake behind the Green Library in one minute and three seconds, a record time.
The annual event, which called for students to create shoes that allowed them to cross the lake is part of Jaime Canaves’ materials and methods of construction class.
The winner received a cash prize of $500 as well as an A. Those who overcame the odds and made it across the lake also received an A. The event was open to all students.
I’m sorry, but there was a girl named Pina around 2001 or 2002 that crossed the lake in 30 seconds or less. Maybe the professor wasn’t taking the time then, or he couldn’t get his stopwatch out fast enough, but that girl blazed across the lake. That was amazing! Lonnie, the news reporter that works for the CBS Morning Show on Saturday was there. At the time he was the weather man for NBC6. Ask NBC6 for the video.
It’d be cool to see a compilation of all the past records. I wonder if there’s a video of the girl from 2001 that crossed in 30 seconds.
Would Jesus think this is cool?
