FIU volleyball spent March 30 helping build three homes in northwest Miami. The team – which was volunteering with Habitat for Humanity as part of their Collegiate Challenge – pitched in with landscaping, installing drywall and construction blocking.
The Collegiate Challenge is a year-round alternative spring break program that offers students the opportunity to help eliminate poverty housing in the community.
“It’s important for student-athletes to take the initiative to be leaders not only in the classroom and at FIU, but in the community,” said Liz Borrell, the assistant athletic director who oversees student-athlete development and community relations.
