Filming a short in Miami

This article is part of our Summer Sojourns 2012 series highlighting summer adventures of FIU students.

Earlier this summer, theatre student Yonettsy Santos participated in the 24-Hour Film Race, a competition that challenged more than 750 teams around the world to create an original, four-minute short film in just 24 hours. At the start of the competition, teams were sent an email that provided a theme, prop and one action that had to be included in the film. Santos did the special effects make-up for her team’s film Sole Survivor.

Santos received the Best Make-Up Award for her efforts. The film took 4th place overall in the competition and was directed by Alejo Vega. Sole Survivor’s music was by FIU alumni Danny Garcia and Joel Capin, and alumna Yinette Santos participated as an extra.

All participating films premiered on big screens in theaters across North America. Click here to watch a preview of Sole Survivor (warning: explicit language).
