5 things to know for Monday

1. Take the day off
In observance of Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11), FIU will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12. The holiday is timed to coincide with the signing of the Armistice that ended the major hostilities of World War I in 1918.

2. Get out of town

3. Set your goals high
Getting a Ph.D. in business may sound intimidating, but Professor Antoinette Smith can help demystify the process. Undergraduate students are invited to attend an information session on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. in CBC 240 (MMC).

4. Soak up inspiration
The inaugural TEDxFIU is finally here! The event sold out quickly, but if you weren’t able to grab a ticket, a livestream will be available online at tedxfiu.com on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 5:30.

5. Start a new season
Your FIU women’s basketball team opens their season at home against North Florida this Sunday, Nov. 11. The men’s basketball team’s first game will be at Boston College on Nov. 11 (catch it on ESPN3); they host Stephen F. Austin of Texas in their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 17.
