TEDxFIU to live stream talks

The 1,000 tickets set aside for the inaugural TEDxFIU sold out in about three minutes.

For those unable to attend, organizers are providing another way to be part of the conversation. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, viewers can log on to tedxfiu.com to watch the talks live.

Themed “Beyond the World You Know, TEDxFIU will feature eight talks from FIU students, professors and alumni before an audience of 650 people. TEDxFIU will be separated into two sessions with a short intermission.

“In the spirit of TED talks, we want to make sure that as many people as possible have access to TEDxFIU,” said TEDxFIU Organizer Eduardo Merille. “These speakers will change your perception of the world and it was important to us that everyone have the ability to hear them present.”

The speakers will be:

• Paralympics Athlete Ileana Rodriguez
• Attorney and Author Elizabeth Price Foley
• Student Philanthropist Ximena Prugue
• Musician/Composer Tony Succar
• Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient Dr. Pedro “Joe” Greer
• Extra-Galactic Astronomer James Webb
• Extreme Events Researcher Richard Olson
• Student Leader Philip Koenig

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED- like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.

In addition to live stream, alumni around the world will be tuning in. Some have even organized watch parties.
