20th Annual FIU holiday event to culminate in bike give-away to 100 needy kids

WHAT:  One hundred needy Miami-Dade County school children will visit Santa’s toy shop and each receive bicycles and other toys at Florida International University’s 20th annual Holiday Celebration for Children. Underprivileged third, fourth and fifth grade students from 14 South Florida public schools have been invited to this holiday luncheon. The class which performs the best skit about the spirit of the season will also win laptops.

This FIU holiday tradition hopes to inspire each of these children to work hard academically and pursue a college education. Dozens of volunteers and major corporate sponsors Walmart & Sam’s Club, The Home Depot, Best Buy, and several others are working together towards one goal – putting a smile on these boys and girls faces.

WHO: FIU’s Division of Student Affairs is hosting this holiday celebration. Administrators, faculty, staff and students will volunteer during the event.  There to greet the children will be FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg. They will be joined by the Miami Heat’s mascot Burnie to kick off the festivities.

WHEN: Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

WHERE: Graham Center Ballroom at FIU’s Modesto Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8th St., Miami.
