New wireless network to launch June 23

The Division of Information Technology is introducing enhancements to the encrypted and secure wireless network for FIU faculty, staff, students and visitors. Beginning June 23, connecting to FIU’s on-campus wireless network will change from the existing network, FIUSECURE, to the new network, FIU_SECUREWiFi.

wifi imageFIU_SECUREWiFi allows users to remain connected on their computer or smart phone. By authenticating with MyAccounts credentials, users will be connected automatically to the university’s wireless network. To remain connected, individuals need to ensure that their MyAccounts password remains updated on their wireless devices.

Another new network, FIU_OtherDevices, will be used for those wireless devices that require a different authentication method such as Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook and some wireless printers. These devices will need to be registered to connect to the wireless network. To register these devices, log in to MyFIU and click on the “Device Registration” link under the main menu.

Support will be provided during this transition period by the Division of IT. Individuals experiencing difficulties connecting to the new wireless networks should contact the IT Support Center by using our Online Service Request System, PantherChat or by calling 305-348-2284.
