Cuban dissidents: transition starts with changing the law


Antonio G. Rodiles and Amelia María Rodríguez Cala will lead a discussion about changes to the Cuba’s constitution and penal code that they see asnecessary before a true transition is underway. This event is co-sponsored by the Cuban Research Institute, the FIU College of Law and the Václav Havel Initiative for Human Rights and Diplomacy.

The presentation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, Deuxieme Maison Building, Room DM 110.

Speakers include:

  • Antonio G. Rodiles, director of State of SATS (Estado de SATS), a forum created in 2010 by a group of young artists, intellectuals and professionals to encourage debate about social, cultural and political issues in Cuba.
  • Amelia María Rodríguez Cala, a Cuban lawyer who has represented many political dissidents since the 1990s.
