Fall commencement traffic

Next week marks another time to celebrate our student achievements during our fall commencement! In seven ceremonies, thousands of students, their families and friends will gather for this significant occasion increasing traffic to the west side of the Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

The periods of high traffic will take place around the U.S. Century Bank Arena beginning one hour before each ceremony and one hour after each ceremony.

This fall, we are holding two commencement ceremonies on Sunday, December 15, at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. On Monday, December 16, ceremonies start at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. On Tuesday, December 17, ceremonies start at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Each ceremony typically lasts about an hour and a half. For a full schedule of commencement ceremonies, please click here.

After the conclusion of each ceremony, FIU police will alter traffic patterns in the area:

  • Vehicles will not be allowed to enter at main entrance at Southwest 112th Avenue. Only exiting will be allowed.
  • Vehicles will still be allowed to enter at Southwest 109th Avenue by the Red Garage and PG5, however, will only be allowed to turn left at University Drive.

Traffic patterns will resume to normal after the bulk of commencement guests have left campus.

Please note that the segment of Southwest 113th Avenue that runs in front of the arena will be open to local traffic only.

Commencement guests will be directed to park in Panther Garage, Lot 9 and Lot 8. Lot 10, located directly behind the arena, will be closed for event staff.
