Festival of the Trees raises more than $20,000 for student scholarships

FIU Interior Architecture Department’s annual Festival of the Trees has become a creative South Florida tradition, marking the start of the holiday season for more than 27 years. Since its inception, the Festival has featured the region’s premier design professionals in celebration of the holiday season’s shapes, colors, light and poetry. The theme of this year’s exhibition, held Nov. 21, was “Celebrating Design Connections,” which showcased the amazing creativity of the community by engaging top local, national and international designers in the design of spectacular holiday trees made from every imaginable material.

This year also had an extraordinary turnout of more than 500 guests at the Coral Gables Museum, where everyone was treated to a gallery of the sculptural designs, live music, a feast of food and drink, and the opportunity to mix and mingle with the South Florida design community. The event raised more than $20,000, benefiting student scholarships in the Department of Interior Architecture.

There are still trees remaining for auction. Give back to the FIU students by purchasing one today! For more information, contact Zinaida Hirlemann at 305.348.6914 or zhirlema@fiu.edu.
