MMC’s Lot 1 to close for construction of PG 6

Lot 1 will close Saturday, Dec. 14, to allow for construction of the university’s newest parking garage – PG 6. The mixed-use structure will bring an additional 2,000 parking spaces to Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC) when it opens in 2015.

The new garage will be located adjacent to the Red Parking Garage and feature a bridge to the Engineering & Computer Science Building (ECS). Similar to PG 5, PG6 will include classrooms and retail space. In addition to PG6, 10th Street will be widened from 109th Avenue to 112th Avenue, and a traffic circle will be added at 112th Avenue.

A total of 230 spaces will be lost in the closing of Lot 1, which is the open-air parking lot adjacent to the Red Parking Garage and the site of the future garage.

“We’ve tried to minimize the negative impact to our university community during the construction of PG 6, particularly to our students,” said Lissette Hernandez, director of Parking and Transportation.
