TEDxFIU2014-Fearless-Journeyfull

Apply by April 14 to be a speaker at TEDxFIU

TEDxFIU kicks off early this year with the call for speakers opening today.

The third annual TEDxFIU will be Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center, and the theme is Fearless Journey. Organizers are looking for speakers and performers whose research, initiative or creativity came to life through fearless thinking and drive.

“This year’s theme is all about having the courage to pursue your dreams,” said TEDxFIU organizer Deborah O’Neil, associate director of FIU News & Communications. “Greatness only happens when we are fearless.”

Speakers must be FIU students, alumni or faculty. Talks should center on a big idea, a project or research. To learn more about what makes a good TEDTalk, watch this video by TED founder Chris Anderson. The deadline to apply is April 14. Past applicants are encouraged to reapply.

“This event celebrates the people who take risks to make the world a better place” said organizer Eduardo Merille, director of marketing and new media. “We want to challenge the audience to examine their own dreams and ask, what can I accomplish on my journey?”

FIU joined the global TED movement in 2012 to resounding success. Nearly 1,200 people attended the first two events and TEDxFIU talks have received nearly 200,000 views on the TEDx YouTube channel.

At TEDxFIU, TEDTalk videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. To learn more about TEDx, visit tedxfiu.com and see highlights from last year’s event, TEDxFIU: Reimagine Possible.
