World-class soccer is coming to campus. Ocean Bank Field at FIU Stadium will be the site of the first annual Copa Campeones de America on Saturday, Jan. 17.

The match will feature two South American soccer powerhouses: Argentina’s San Lorenzo de Almagro – winners of the 2014 Copa Libertadores – and Colombia’s Atletico Nacional de Medellin, the runner-up of the 2014 Copa Sudamericana.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., but doors open at 3 p.m. for a preliminary match between local clubs Miami United and Nacional Miami SC in the “Miami Super Cup.” There will also be a fan zone with Colombian and Argentinian food, games and attractions.

Tickets for the match start at $44 and are available for purchase on Ticketmaster.com, but FIU students can purchase 20 percent discounted tickets on campus Friday, Jan. 16 in the Graham Center.

This will not be the first time FIU Stadium has hosted international soccer. The 20,000-seat facility has hosted the CONCACAF Gold Cup twice (2009, 2011), which featured a number of national teams from across North America and Central America, including Canada, Honduras, and Jamaica among others.
