Dear FIU family,
As we turn to final exam week, we are humbled by the devastation in Nepal as a consequence of this weekend’s earthquake. Thousands of people have perished, families and lives have been shattered, ancient patrimony has been destroyed, and grief extends beyond national borders. Including here at FIU.
By our estimate, at least 30 currently enrolled FIU students are from Nepal. We are in the process of contacting each of them to determine how we can help. We are also contacting our faculty and staff from and with family in Nepal. We hope that you too can find a way to help. Relief agencies will be stretched thin by this disaster, and reconstruction will be long, arduous and costly.
We ask that you find a way to help. Humanitarian relief is critical and we must stand tall to support those in need. That’s what it means to be Worlds Ahead. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this devastation and their families—starting right here at our FIU.
I thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Mark B. Rosenberg
President
[…] FIU Stands with Nepal […]
It is devastating. Frequent aftershocks forcing people to stay in open sky. This is peak time for tourists. People from different parts are also affected. We are in dire need of Humanitarian help. Please help Nepal. All your penny counts.
Here’s how you can help rush humanitarian aid to children and families in Nepal: https://www.unicefusa.org/donate/nepal-earthquake-help-children-now/24226
How can I make a donation? Thanks.
I was one of the first Nepali student to graduate from FIU in 1996. I appreciate FIU taking this initiation. Thank you so much.
FIU can help by stop using alumni money to expand and rob the wildlife of their natural habitat and put it into things like this. Something MEANINGFUL. FIU doesn’t need to expand.
