Commencement 2015: Come alive

Come Alive.

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

                                                — Howard Thurman, educator, philosopher and poet

We graduate 12,000 students each year who have worked hard, figured out what makes them come alive, and gone on to make their mark in the world.

Our graduates and their families think that they’re the lucky ones, but we disagree. We know that we’re the lucky ones. Why? Because 80 percent of our graduates settle here, in South Florida.

Armed with the skills, knowledge and opportunities needed to achieve their dreams, our alumni save lives through their healing, challenge our notions of what is right and just, safeguard our oceans and lands, lift our spirits through the arts, inspire our children and grandchildren through education, dry our tears when life’s burdens become too great, build up our community through their entrepreneurial spirit and creation of new jobs, and lead our community toward a brighter future for all of us who live in Miami-Dade County.

For 50 years it has been our privilege and great joy to help our students discover what makes them come alive.

Stay tuned to see what the next 50 years will bring.
