Free group fitness classes

Beginning Fall 2015, all PantherFIT (PFIT) group fitness classes at the Wellness and Recreation Center – MMC will be offered free of charge to all members.

“This decision was made in response to student and employee members feedback and is a testament to our commitment to removing barriers to staying healthy and fit,” said Rob Frye, director of Wellness and Recreation Center – MMC.

Class reservations will still be taken in advance to help control overcrowding. Online registration will begin one hour prior to class time on the WRC website. Gold WRC members will still be able to reserve a class space ahead of time by calling the WRC the morning of the desired class.

Christina Angelo, a senior studying early childhood education, uses the gym at least five days a week and regularly participates in group fitness classes.

“Hopefully the classes don’t get too crowded, but I’m definitely looking forward to having more spending money,” she said.

Based on the old rates, it’s estimated students taking one to two classes per day could spend more than $1,000 per year if they choose to pay for each class individually.

Fitness instructors are also looking forward to the no-fee classes.

“I’m extremely excited that the classes are free because more people will be encouraged to take them and it’s exciting to see my classes fuller,” said Maria Roman, PantherFit fitness instructor. “It will definitely spice things up a little.”

Wellness and Recreation – MMC offers more than 70 PFIT classes per week, including Zumba®, Spinning®, Insanity®, Yoga, HardBodies, Pilates, SoBe Buns, Ultimate Abs, Kickboxing, and more. To view the current schedule of PantherFIT classes, click here.
