Want to learn about diplomacy and international public service in the nation’s capital?

The 2015 Transformation Contest, ending Dec. 18, might just be your ticket to Washington, D.C.

To enter, FIU undergraduate students share a life-changing international or intercultural experience through an artistic or informational medium.

Last year’s contest winners – Abbeygale Chen-See, 20, and Semira Sanchez, 22 – shared original art, poetry and reflections on how their international travel has transformed their understanding of the world.

They both enjoyed a two-day visit to the headquarters of the Peace Corps, the State Department and two non-profit organizations – FHI360 and Results.

“It was really go, go, go,” Sanchez said. “We met with a lot of returned Peace Corps volunteers and got to hear their stories and they gave us advice. We also had a chance to meet with a diplomat who has traveled the world and even served in Azerbaijan.”

Students have until noon Dec. 18 to submit their original entries. Winners will be announced in January and the trip to Washington, D.C. will take place after spring commencement.
