FIU to host White House astronomy night


FIU joins President Obama’s efforts to expand access to STEM experiences for the next generation of scientists, engineers and inventors by hosting a night of stargazing tonight at 8 p.m. at the Stocker AstroScience Center on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

astronomyNightjpegThe event is one of several nationwide in celebration of the White House Astronomy Night. A live stream of President Obama’s remarks from the White House will kick off the event.

It will be a night of observing the night sky with a presentation by FIU astronomer James Webb. Students and teachers from Booker T. Washington Senior High School will be joining FIU students, scientists and astronomy enthusiasts at the event though FIU’s Education Effect partnership.

The event is free and open to the public and attendees will have an opportunity to tour the observatory.
