Governor reappoints Puig, Armas to the FIU Board of Trustees

Governor Rick Scott announced the reappointment of Claudia Puig and Dr. Jose J. Armas to the Florida International University Board of Trustees.

“FIU is fortunate to have Claudia Puig and Dr. Jose J. Armas for another term on our Board of Trustees,” said FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg. “Claudia and Jose are passionate, engaged and work hard for our university, students, staff and community. As fearless FIU advocates, they are essential to our success.”

Claudia Puig is Senior Vice President, General Manager, Local Media at Univision, which owns some of the top-rated Spanish-language radio and television stations in Miami. During her tenure, Univision Radio’s stations in Miami have consistently ranked among the top-rated stations in the market.

This past December Puig was elected chair of FIU’s Board of Trustees.

“It has been a great honor to serve on the Board of Trustees of FIU,” Puig said. “I am humbled by the opportunity to continue serving in a leadership role as the Chair of the Board. I remain firm in my commitment to our community, striving to increase higher education opportunities by protecting and enhancing FIU’s academic excellence and sustainability.”

Armas has a long and distinguished record of accomplishments in the health care field. In 1998, he founded MCCI Group which has grown to be a leading physician health care group in the Southeastern United States. He formerly served as senior vice president of Coastal Physician Group, where he was responsible for all aspects of health care delivery systems, integration, and contracting.

He is a member of the National Advisory Board of Health Research Resources Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland. He was also chairman of quality management for Gold Star Medical Management. He is a member of the Humana Utilization Committee, the Board of Statewide Florida Independent Physicians Association, and the American Medical Association, among others.

He also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board and is a member of the interview committee of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He also serves on the advisory board for the School of Nursing and Healthcare of Georgetown University.

Puig and Armas have been appointed for five-year terms that end on January 6, 2021.
