A new era begins for FIU baseball as former Alabama State and Bethune-Cookman coach Mervyl Melendez becomes the fourth head coach in program history. Rose Ellen Greene (right), a longtime volunteer at Jesse J. McCrary Jr. Elementary School and local philanthropist, is given a bouquet of flowers by a young student at the announcement of an expansion of the Education Effect into Little Haiti. Greene’s $2 million donation will fund a multidisciplinary team that will connect the school, students and parents with university expertise, resources and research-based programs that address pressing educational and social needs.
