Construction begins on multipurpose recreation/practice fields

The following memo was sent from Celi Ervesun, construction project manager for Facilities Management, to the FIU community on Feb. 2.

Construction of the multi-purpose recreation/practice fields and enhanced Nature Preserve is ready to begin. Construction fencing will be erected on Friday, Feb. 3, and will remain in place until project completion in August 2017. Although mostly stationary, the fencing has been designed to be moveable to allow limited access to the existing organic garden and preserve as needed. Access to the jogging path around the preserve will be limited during construction.

Upon completion of the project, two new recreation/practice fields – one natural turf and one artificial turf – will be in place and the jogging path will be extended to encompass them. In addition, a new wetlands area designed by faculty will be created south of the current preserve to provide an enhanced research and teaching resource for FIU faculty and students.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve recreational and athletic opportunities for our students.
