Former dean Alex Acosta to deliver keynote at law graduation

The former dean of the FIU College of Law, R. Alexander Acosta, will return to campus on May 26 to address the 2017 graduating law class.

The class includes 148 Juris Doctor candidates, 15 Master of Law candidates and the inaugural class of 14 Juris Master candidates. The Juris Master program is for non-lawyers looking to enhance their knowledge of the law.

“We are thrilled to host former dean Acosta during law commencement,” said FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg. “A first generation university and law graduate, he has worked hard to reach the pinnacle of his profession and inspire our students.”

Acosta served as dean of the FIU College of Law from 2009 to February of 2017. Before coming to FIU, he served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.

Under Acosta’s stewardship, FIU Law raised its national profile dramatically and earned a reputation for excellence and student success. FIU Law is ranked among the Top 100 law schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

The FIU law commencement begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, located at 11200 SW 8th Street in FIU’s MMC Campus.
