Bayview at BBC not ready for students’ return

Servitas, the company that manages Bayview at BBC, advised the university that the building was not available for residents to return Sunday, Sept. 17.

Damage caused by Hurricane Irma has impacted the air quality in the building. There are moisture and mold spores in some areas. Industrial air purifiers have been deployed throughout the building and need to operate until the air has been properly cleaned. Only then will Bayview’s residents be able to return. The mitigation work is expected to take until at least Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Students were allowed to enter the building on Sunday between 2 and 8 p.m. to collect personal items.

The building will be open for residents to collect necessary belongings again on Monday, Sept. 18, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

FIU is working with the management company to find temporary accommodations for Bayview residents.

Servitas and FIU will update residents as soon as additional information becomes available.
