The following message to the university community regarding recovery following Hurricane Irma on Sept. 20, 2017

Even after we resumed classes this week, FIU emergency managers and administrators continued to work on post-storm related issues.

Bayview

We are pleased to report that, working with Servitas, the company that manages Bayview, and contractors, we were able to complete storm damage repairs and open the building so that residents were able to return Tuesday afternoon.

We are glad our students are back in their space and ready to resume theirs studies.

Special needs shelter

Most of the Monroe County special needs evacuees that were being sheltered at PG6 have left. But on Tuesday night the special needs shelter was filled again, at the request of the Florida Department of Health and the U.S. Public Health Service, who are working tirelessly to care for about 100 special needs evacuees from the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The evacuees are dialysis patients from the areas hardest hit by hurricanes Irma and Maria.

We continue to work with our local, state, federal and private sector partners to house some of our most vulnerable. Thank you for your cooperation as our own campuses recover from the impact of Hurricane Irma and return to normal.
