November 2017 in photos: Homecoming, Walk on Water, soccer

We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! We have a lot to be thankful for here at FIU: a beautiful campus, success on the football and fútbol fields, cool traditions like Walk on Water and so much more.

Now that the Fall semester is winding down, and we’re in the midst of the holiday season, let’s take a look back at some of our favorite moments and images from November, captured by FIU photographers.

Lesly Abreu uses a pipette to gather a water sample in order to measure the salinity of king tide on the flooded steps of Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. She was one of more than 100 citizen scientists deployed by FIU to investigate whether flooding from the most recent king tide – an exceptionally high tide that occurs only a few times a year – was bringing saltwater or freshwater inland to urban areas. Photo by Tim Long

That’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Architecture students from FIU and elsewhere used “shoes” they created to attempt to cross the lake behind the Green Library at this year’s Walk on Water. Some were more successful than others! Photo by Kristen Mayoral
