1980s

Michelle Otero Valdes ’89 of Chalos & Co. in Coral Gables received the “Women in Law 2017 Award” for practice in the area of admiralty and maritime law and was included in the “Women in Law 2017” publication of Lawyer Monthly.

1990s

Alex Cuello ’90 received the 2017 “Pro-Bono Attorney of the Year” award for excellence in volunteer legal representation to public guardians in Florida at the Florida State Guardianship Association’s annual conference.

Elizabeth Vento ’94 was hired by City National Bank of Florida as vice president and business banker.

Sean Kramer ’95 was appointed senior vice president and chief development officer at the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Roy Hawkins MS ’99 was appointed senior vice president and CEO of Jackson North Medical Center, a 382-bed hospital serving north Miami-Dade County.

2000s

Jessica Nieves ’00 was promoted to associate vice president, personal banker and lending assistant at Marquis Bank.

Daniel Salgado ’08 was hired as clubhouse manager and director of food and beverage at Mizner Country Club.

2010s 

Karen Cantor (Riggi) MBA ’10 served as chairman of the board for the 2017 Air Carriers Purchasing Conference, which took place in August in San Diego. The professional development conference highlighted standards of excellence in the aviation industry.

Natalee Collazo (Gil-del Rio) ’15 and current student Christopher Collazo welcomed the birth of daughter Mckayla Rose on June 23, 2017.

Christopher Cummins ’16 joined FIU’s office in Washington, D.C., as a governmental relations associate, where he will support advocacy efforts for the university.

Ina Thakur MS ’16 moved to Seattle after being hired as a business analyst for Amazon.

Elizabeth Lytle ’17 joined the award-winning public relations firm Curley & Pynn as a communications specialist.

Marcus Norris MA ’17 was awarded the prestigious Eugene Cota-Robles Fellowship at UCLA, which includes tuition and fees to pursue a doctorate in music composition and a $100,000 stipend.
