FIU College of Law graduates diverse 14th class

For the 146 juris doctorate candidates who will be graduating from FIU College of Law, Friday’s commencement ceremony marks a milestone achievement — the start of their global impact as lawyers.

Diversity is a word that this graduating class is all too familiar with. The current graduating class encompasses many countries of origin such as Brazil, England, Jamaica, and Mexico. This diversity, coupled with a world-class curriculum, will allow them to deliver a positive impact on communities and families, not only in Miami and Washington, but abroad.

The College of Law will also celebrate the graduation of students from the Master of Law degree (LL.M.) program. This commencement, 18 graduates will be earning their LL.M., a degree for foreign lawyers that makes it possible for them to begin their legal careers in the U.S.

The College of Law has made tremendous strides since its inception in 2001. Today, FIU Law has an 87 percent first-time Bar pass rate and is currently number one in Florida. The college has an employment rate of 80.7 percent for 2017 graduates.

“We are all proud of this graduating class, for all that they have achieved including the many competitions won, their success on the Bar exam, and other professional accomplishments,” said acting dean Tawia B. Ansah. “I have enjoyed watching this group of students develop their identities as leaders within the legal profession.”

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the FIU Arena, located at 11200 S.W. 8 Street in FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus.
