June 2018 in photos: Study abroad, 3D printing at MBUS and afternoon storms

This summer, Panthers are hard at work – studying abroad, hosting camps for kids in the community and honing their skills. Here are just a few of our favorite moments from last month.

Do you have a favorite summer moment captured in a photo? Send us the shot (egarland@fiu.edu), and we may include in our next issue of month in photos.

Nine FIU swimming and diving student-athletes were named to the 2018 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Team this month, highlighting the strength of the Panthers not only in the pool but also in the classroom. Photo by FIU Athletics.

While studying abroad, Honors College student Christy Villa and her classmates raised $1,100 for the Bike to the Future Program at Spitler Anchagn Primary School in Southeast Asia. The kids at the school need bikes in order to continue their education. Without bikes, many kids can’t attend secondary school because it’s too far from their village. Campers share their 3D pieces created at Growlight/Breakthrough Miami, a four-week summer camp held at the Miami Beach Urban Studios (MBUS) that focuses on design, art, technology, urbanism and public policy. Organized by the College of Communication, Architecture + the Arts and Breakthrough Miami, the program takes advantage of the college’s studios on Lincoln Road to introduce students to 3D printing. Photo courtesy of MBUS.

In South Florida, beautiful mornings give way to afternoon storms in the summer. Although, we would argue there is beauty in stormy skies as well. Photo by Eduardo Merille.
