Finding FIU events just got easier 

It’s hard to keep track of what’s happening on campus. Students, faculty and alumni work hard to organize fun and engaging events to bring the community together. But it’s a struggle to get the word out at a university with more than 57,000 students, 11 colleges and schools and six locations across South Florida. 

To meet this need, FIU is rolling out a new and improved Events Calendar. It’s a brand new system for everyone in the university community to find and track events they’re interested in. And it’s going to make it easier than ever to post and share events. 

It’s a simple platform for anyone in the university community to post and share events – from club organizers to professors to volunteers.  

 Here’s what you can do with the new calendar: 

 Log in to track and create events 

Anyone can sign up using an FIU email or any other email account. Creating your own account lets you follow individual events by marking, “I’m Interested.” Having an account also lets you to create your own event in minutes using the event submission form. You can keep track of events using the dashboard and get notifications sent to your email. 

 Find events by location, organizer or category 

You could just search for an event by name, but what makes this calendar even better is you can just as easily browse for events. Want to know what’s happening in Graham Center? Check out Buildings. Want to attend a fraternity or sorority fundraiser? Visit Student Orgs. Interested in a biology lecture? Find it in Departments. You can even follow a building, organization or department to find out about their future events. 

There’s a category for anything you’re in the mood for, too. So whatever you’re looking for, you’ll be able to find something to do on campus.  

Customize a page for your student group or organization 

Lots of stuff happens at FIU every day. It can be hard to get your events to stand out. You can boost your signal by requesting a group page for your organization so that all your events can be found in one place. Share the page to let everyone know what happening with your organization and calendar users can follow your page to stay in touch. 

Embed events feeds in your site 

The widget builder lets you build a custom feed that can be embedded in a site. You can set the feed to populate based on an organizer, location, keywords and tags, or categories. You can even customize the look of the feed, to hide and show certain details.
