We won the bowl game!

On Friday, Dec. 21, President Mark B. Rosenberg sent this message to the FIU community:

Dear FIU family,

We did it! It was a great game and I am proud that we showed our competitiveness on the field and won the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl 35 to 32 against the University of Toledo Rockets. I want to send a big thank you to our student athletes, staff and Coach Butch Davis, who led us to our second bowl victory in FIU history. And congratulations to linebacker Edwin Freeman and quarterback Christian Alexander, who won defensive MVP and offensive MVP, respectively.

Many others contributed to this victory, including the FIU Marching Band, directed by Barry Bernhardt; the FIU Cheerleaders; FIU Dazzlers; Roary; Police Chief Alex Casas; the Parking and Transportation team; SGA Presidents Sabrina Rosell and Jefferson Noel; the Advancement and Alumni Affairs teams, who organized several events including a great tailgate; the External Relations, Strategic Communication and Marketing team; Assistant Chief of Staff Claudia Gonzalez and the Office of the President team; members of the FIU Bowl Committee and all who worked tirelessly to coordinate the FIU Fan Charter.

Today’s victory is our 9th this season, which is a program record! It would not have been the same without the FIU students, alumni, volunteers, faculty, staff and supporters who came out to watch the game in the Bahamas and cheer for our Panthers. We also know there were countless fans who supported our Panthers today from home. This game was an opportunity for the FIU community to come together and celebrate our blue and gold pride. Thank you all!

Have a wonderful holiday season. I look forward to working and cheering with you in 2019.

Go Panthers!

Sincerely,
