The following message was sent to the university community on Thursday, May 23, 2019.
FIU Police have been made aware of a threat that was made on social media against the AMC Tamiami 18 Movie Theater, which is located at 11865 SW 26st Street.
Safety is our number one priority. We know many members of the FIU community frequently visit this location, so we wanted to share this information with you.
The post did not include specific information regarding a date or time and there were similar threats made to locations in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Dakota. At this time, there is no imminent threat, but law enforcement continues to investigate and monitor the threat.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you to always be alert to your surroundings. Remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
