Homecoming 2019 starts tomorrow!

President Mark B. Rosenberg sent the following message to the university community today.

Are you ready to Unleash the Spirit? Tomorrow starts one of the most exciting times of the year, Homecoming!

The fun kicks off Friday, October 4 and runs through Saturday, October 12.

With your help, Homecoming 2019 is going to be bigger and better than ever. Our Homecoming Committee has been working hard to put together an exciting lineup of events! Here’s what students, faculty and staff and alumni have to look forward to.

STUDENTS

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4

Panthermonium (MMC)
This year, Lil Yachty, Sheck Wes, Waka Flocka Flame and Flipp Dinero are ready to kick off the week with you at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center at 6:30 p.m..
(Today is the last day to purchase your tickets for just $10! For student tickets, click here. For guest tickets, click here. Tickets will be $40 at the door.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5

FIU vs. UMass (MMC) – Note this is not the homecoming game
Let’s start off the week right by supporting your Panthers at our next home game! Our 2019 court candidates will also have the special opportunity to meet former winners at the “Royal Reunion” prior to the game. The game will kick-off at 7:00 p.m..
(Students can attend the football game for free with a valid OneCard.)

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6

The Crown (MMC)
This year’s Homecoming court contestants will be put to the test. Meet them in the GC Ballrooms at 6:30 p.m.. as they show that they’ve got what it takes to be a part of this year’s Homecoming royalty.
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard; guests are also welcome at no charge.)

 MONDAY, OCTOBER 7

Kick-off at the Bay (BBC)
Take part in BBC’s first event of the week. Join fellow students in the Panther Plaza at 12:00 p.m.. as they begin to Unleash the Spirit and gear up for the big week ahead!
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard.)

 Unleash the Spirit (FIU@I-75)
Our Broward County students can also join in on the festivities with free food and giveaways from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.. Monday through Thursday.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8

Taste at the Bay (BBC)
Our newest homecoming event is taking place at our beautiful Biscayne Bay Campus! Bring your family and friends to this food truck round-up in Parking Lot 2 from 12:00 p.m.. to 2:00 p.m..
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard; $5 for guests.)

Caribbean Bash (BBC)
Take a trip to the Caribbean without leaving campus! Experience all that Caribbean culture has to offer such as food, music and dancing at 6:00 p.m.. in the WUC Ballrooms.
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard; $5 for guests.)

Trail of the Torch (MMC)
One of our longest standing traditions takes place at 6:30 p.m.. The event will commence on the lawn of the MARC Building, and culminate with the lighting of the Torch of Knowledge, Service & Opportunity near Primera Casa.
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard; guests are also welcome at no charge, but check-in wristbands are required to receive the evening’s giveaways.)

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9

Festival of the Panther King (BBC)
Help us celebrate Roary’s birthday by cheering on your fellow students in a baking competition! The event will take place 12:00 p.m.. to 2:00 p.m.. in WUC Panther Square.
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard.)

Family Reunion & Trail of the Torch (BBC)
Calling all BBC students and alumni! There will be a BBQ in your honor in the Panther Plaza from 5:30 p.m.. to 9:30 p.m.., including your very own Trail of the Torch.
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard; $5 for guests.)

Panthers Got Talent (MMC)
Our FIU family will take center stage at this year’s show at 5:30 p.m.. in the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. Your Homecoming Duke and Duchess will also be crowned at this event.
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard; guests are also welcome at no charge.)

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10

Onyx Lunch (BBC)
The Black Student Union is hosting a lunch with black alumni. The reunion will take place in the WUC Ballrooms from 12:00 p.m.. to 2:00 p.m..
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard.)

The Uncaging (MMC)
We invite you and your families to join us for our homecoming carnival festival from 5:00 p.m.. to 9:00 p.m.. on the GC Lawns. The event will include games, food, fireworks, and so much more! Your Homecoming Prince and Princess will also be crowned at this event.
(Students can attend for free with a valid OneCard; guests are also welcome at no charge.)

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12 – THE BIG DAY!

Unleash the Spirit (FIU@I-75)
Our Broward County students can also join in on the festivities with free food and giveaways from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..!

Homecoming Tailgating (MMC)
Homecoming is the biggest tailgate of the season! Lots open at 2:00 p.m.., so claim your spots early! For more information, go to https://parking.fiu.edu/tailgating/.

Panther Walk and Homecoming Parade (MMC)
There’s no better way to get ready for the big game than by participating in our Homecoming Parade! Come cheer on your fellow Panthers and community members from 4:45 p.m.. to 5:30 p.m.. This year’s Grand Marshal will be Martha Valdes, better known as “Martha of Miami”! There’s also still time to participate in the parade; please click here!!

Homecoming Game(MMC)
The entire week leads up to this moment! Following the parade, let’s rattle the cage at 7:00 p.m.. for the big game against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Your Homecoming King and Queen will also be crowned at this event. Trust me, you won’t want to miss this!

Spirit Decorating Competition
The competition is fierce for this year’s Spirit Decorating Competition!!  Cast your vote for this year’s most spirited workspaces by October 8. Winners will be announced at the Homecoming Game!
Didn’t enter the competition? There’s still time to decorate your areas and unleash the spirit! We encourage everyone to keep up their decorations through Homecoming day.

Panther Pride Social Media Competition 
Your colleagues have submitted their most spirited photos. To vote for your favorite, follow our social media channels and “like” through October 8. Winners will be announced at the Homecoming Game!

Homecoming Faculty/Staff King and Queen 
Who will be this year’s Homecoming Faculty/Staff King and Queen? Please vote by October 8. Don’t miss the royal crowning at The Uncaging on Thursday, October 10.

We are excited to have faculty, staff, and alumni on campus to help wrap up Homecoming week with one of our newer events! Sample delicious bites and beverages while helping us raise money for FIU Ignite in the GC Ballrooms from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. To register, click here.
