FIU Libraries remote services: Because there should never be a quarantine on knowledge

FIU Libraries offers online services to helps students, faculty and staff better navigate remote life.

On Tuesday, March 17, FIU Libraries went fully online in accordance with the university's move to remote work and learning. Although library doors are currently closed, services remain available to help students, faculty and staff navigate remote work and academic endeavors.

Chat Services

Chat services have been extended to allow for reference assistance and general library inquiries. The current schedule is as follows:

Monday -Thursday: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
(These hours are subject to change)

Book Rentals 

Physical book rentals are currently suspended, but you can search FIU's expansive ebook collection online and borrow without ever having to leave your bed. 

In addition, the university has negotiated with two of our major e-book vendors to open up access to nearly 400,000 additional e-books at no cost for the remainder of the semester.

Overdue fees

Due dates on all library materials, including laptops, will be extended to correspond to the period FIU Libraries remain closed. Students, faculty, and staff will NOT be charged overdue fines for the duration of the closure. In addition to suspended overdue fines, all current blocks in Student Financials due to past fines & fees will be temporarily removed to allow students to register for summer sessions.

Please periodically check-in as FIU Libraries will continue to add research collections and adjust service offerings to meet the needs of the university community.
