FIU climbs the ladder in Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings

FIU ranked among the top U.S. public universities in the Times Higher Education 2021 World University Rankings released this week.

FIU climbed 17 spots from No. 75 to No. 58 among public universities in the nation in the Times Higher Education World University rankings. FIU also moved up one bracket in the overall World rankings to the 401-500 bracket up from the 501-600 bracket last year, including more than 1,500 universities across 93 countries.

“These rankings demonstrate our continued commitment to the FIU vision to be an internationally-recognized and engaged institution delivering real results,” said FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg. “Earlier this week, we were recognized as a top contributor to the public good, by Washington Monthly Magazine and in 2019, our international business program was ranked among the top five in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.”

Universities were evaluated based on five areas: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income, and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students, and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).

“Our dedication to student and faculty excellence is apparent in our rapid rise in many national and world rankings,” said FIU Provost Kenneth G. Furton. “In addition to being a top 50 institution in the U.S., this ranking demonstrates that our work is having an increased global impact.”
