FIU leadership continues to monitor developments surrounding the coronavirus outbreak

Update 11

March 6, 2020 at 7:00pm

FIU leadership continues to monitor developments surrounding the coronavirus outbreak. At this time no cases have been confirmed in South Florida or at FIU. FIU continues to be fully operational. Please visit our coronavirus web page for the latest updates.

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in accordance with FIU’s own guidelines, and in an abundance of caution, some members of the FIU community are self-quarantining, based on having returned from one of the countries most affected by coronavirus or having had close contact (six feet or less for more than 15 minutes) with people who have traveled to these countries. Facultystaff and students returning to campus after a 14-day quarantine must download a clearance form and have it signed by a doctor.

Events

Please note that FIU events, including spring commencements, are expected to take place as scheduled. However, you probably have seen that large local events such as Ultra, Calle Ocho and eMerge Americas have been canceled. Please remain alert in the event we need to take similar action with some of our own events.

We have asked every member of the university community who is planning an event that will take place on or off campus through June 30, 2020, to fill out this short form with some basic event details. Should the situation across South Florida deteriorate and FIU determines in the best interest and safety of our community that we need to postpone events, we will use this information to make decisions and contact event organizers. If you have not submitted your upcoming event, please do so immediately. We request that all events be documented no later than noon on Tuesday, March 10.
