Conferences, lectures, colloquia and speaker series are vital parts of campus culture and key to an engaged scholarly community.

However, under the current circumstances, hosting a scholarly event can present a multitude of challenges for the host in terms of organizing, promoting and even archiving.

Queue FIU Digital Commons. Through the Digital Commons platform, FIU Libraries has online conference and event management tools available to help support scholarly events so you can continue engaging students, faculty and the broader community.

By offering a great deal of flexibility and visibility, organizers using Digital Commons receive:

  • Custom branding and design options
  • Ensured high search engine discoverability
  • Author submission and peer review workflows
  • Multimedia support for audio and video files
  • On-demand reports to show how often users visit your event
  • Archival long-term access to all materials
Digital Commons in action

Digital Commons supports audio, video, image and textual materials for events all in one place. These multimedia capabilities are showcased in FIU’s “Shakespeare Across the Divide” symposium where audio recordings are captured along with supporting materials including author bios.

Not only do these conference structures preserve events, but they can also serve as an important tool in managing and promotion. 2018’s International Conference on Thinking utilized the online conference tools offered in Digital Commons to accept and review speaker submissions from more than 140 authors and used FIU’s Digital Commons as their virtual program for attendees.

Want to use FIU Digital Commons to host your next event? The service is free and available to all members of the FIU community. To learn more, reach out to Jill Krefft (jkrefft@fiu.edu). Krefft will set up a consultation to duscuss how Digital Commons can support your event.
