In an ongoing effort to increase opportunities for its students, Miami Dade College (MDC) and Florida International University (FIU) have entered an agreement that establishes a transfer program beginning in Fall 2020. MDC graduates with a bachelor's degree in engineering will be able to complete a master's degree at FIU in one year and become eligible to obtain a Professional Engineers (PE) license.

“This articulation agreement creates a unique pathway for MDC students to continue graduate studies at FIU," said Carlos Genatios, MDC chairperson for Industrial Engineering and Technology.  "It is also a step towards a common strategic view in the development of engineering and technology’s role in South Florida.”

The agreement provides assurance that students graduating from MDC's School of Engineering and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology will be accepted into the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Master of Science in Computer Engineering programs at FIU's College of Engineering & Computing.

“Through our collaboration, FIU and MDC will enhance and expand the research opportunities of the future engineering workforce,” said Shekhar Bhansali, interim director of the School of Electrical, Computer and Enterprise Engineering, Alcatel-Lucent professor and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “This will be a seamless admission pathway where students at MDC will develop a solid operational grounding, and at FIU, a theoretical framework to reinforce their knowledge.”
